As the role of a regional marketing organization has changed over the years in California, the Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (SCWA) has continued to embrace the need to change as other in-region destination marketing organizations have matured and have taken on some of the responsibilities originally the responsibility of the Shasta Cascade. The Association continues to serve as the official representative for a region of California known as the Shasta Cascade. This combined geographic area is not represented in totality by any other entity and it continues to serve the businesses and communities of the region to market collectively under the Shasta Cascade banner. Much of California's rural landscape is under the management of public lands agencies and often the best private/public partnerships can be developed at a regional level. The SCWA has worked proactively to develop productive relationships with all the major public lands agencies in Northern California. The regional organization is also in a unique position to seek out opportunities for cooperative marketing with other tourism marketing entities outside the region. Specifically when marketing to the International visitor, working with California gateway cities such as San Francisco and adjacent regions only makes sense as visitors most often choose itineraries which go beyond the borders of the Shasta Cascade Region. These opportunities most commonly would not work on a community by community basis.
